The Randy Tucker Scholarship Award

Supporting Deserving Students Since 2025

Our Story

Randy Tucker wasn’t just Tracy Kimbrell’s guitar teacher. He was a mentor who believed music should never be limited by a student’s ability to pay. When Tracy was young and eager to learn, Randy made a decision that would shape his life: he gave him free guitar lessons, not for a month or a year, but forever. That generosity sparked a philosophy Tracy carries to this day: music is a right, not a privilege, and every student deserves the chance to discover their voice through an instrument.

The Randy Tucker Scholarship Award turns that belief into action. The vision is simple but bold: to create a community where music education is a birthright, not a luxury. Since 2015, this program has provided free or reduced-cost lessons to students who might otherwise never pick up a guitar, sit at a piano, or learn to read sheet music. We believe music education transforms lives, not just by teaching technique, but by building confidence, discipline, and joy. Every student who benefits from this program carries forward a tradition of generosity, proving that when we invest in music education, we invest in hope, creativity, and the next generation of artists. At The Music Store Studios, we’re passing forward the same gift Randy gave Tracy –the opportunity to become not just a player, but a musician.

Scholarship Recipients

Our Mission

The Randy Tucker Scholarship Award was established by Tracy Kimbrell, owner of The Music
Store Studios and dedicated music educator with 26 years of teaching experience at the
institution. The scholarship is dedicated to supporting deserving students who demonstrate
authentic passion for music and consistent dedication to their craft but face financial barriers to
continued instruction.

It is named in honor of Tracy’s guitar instructor, Randy Tucker. One day, during a lesson
together, Randy surprised Tracy by declaring “you get the Randy Tucker Scholarship Award!”
and offering free lessons forever. The scholarship embodies this same spirit of generous
mentorship.

The program provides comprehensive support including free lessons, instruments, accessories,
and educational materials to worthy students. Students are identified through quarterly board
meetings and instructor recommendations. A board of experienced music instructors
collaboratively reviews student progress, celebrating achievements and nominating candidates
who exhibit measurable growth, genuine heart for music, and respect for the learning process.

The scholarship’s core mission is to ensure that economic constraints never limit true musical
potential.

Our Vision

We envision the Randy Tucker Scholarship Award as a catalyst for sustained musical excellence
that extends beyond our studio walls. Through quarterly collaborative meetings where instructors
share student successes and identify worthy candidates, we foster a culture of recognition and
support for dedicated musicians. By partnering with school music educators and expanding our
network within the broader educational community, we aim to reach deserving students across
multiple institutions. The scholarship honors the spirit of musical mentorship cultivated at The
Music Store Studios, creating a sustainable cycle where today’s supported students become
tomorrow’s musical mentors and community contributors. As we grow, we aspire to build
relationships with teachers at surrounding schools, amplifying our impact and carrying forward
the legacy of giving back to those who truly deserve it.
